Abstract

Language models are useful for various tasks, including speech recognition, machine translation, natural language generation, optical character recognition, handwriting recognition, grammar induction, and information retrieval. Before developing or applying such a model we must clarify its elements, structure and characteristics. The present paper discusses languages, their modality and models, the writing systems and alphabets, and how their letters help and improve the languages in order to achieve better communication and understanding. It presents results from international research done in Europe and the United States.
